Kate Shierlaw can't wait to get stuck in at Arden St. Picture: NMFC Media

After six AFLW campaigns across two different clubs, a calling arose for St Kilda spearhead Kate Shierlaw to become a Kangaroo.

Shierlaw, who has spent the last four seasons at Moorabbin, was signed by the North Melbourne Tasmanian Kangaroos on the first day of the 2023 Sign and Trade Period, after floating interest for the move late last year.

Now officially a Roo, the mercurial key forward explained why she wanted to make the switch from Moorabbin to Arden Street ahead of Season 8.

"I have connections with some of the players already and I really like the style of footy that they've been playing," Shierlaw told North Media.

"We've got a strong system and the players buy into the system and play their role and I think that's what I've been craving in my footy – to be part of something like that.

"Obviously they're a successful program and I'm just hoping to slide in and fit in seamlessly…."

Shierlaw's arrival at North Melbourne provides her with the opportunity to play with her partner and long-standing Kangaroos captain, Emma Kearney.

"I'm really excited to play with her," Shierlaw said.

"She's obviously an elite player as a footballer, but also as a leader.

"(I'm) excited to learn and see how she goes about things more closely inside the club and to play on the field (with her) and hopefully have a really good connection."

At 34, the experenced Shierlaw has established herself as one of the AFLW's most potent attacking threats.

Season 7 saw the former Saint boot 13 goals from 10 games and average 3.8 marks, which ultimately saw her earn a maiden best and fairest victory.

But despite her standout traits as a forward line target, Shierlaw's main goal is to simply put her new team first and execute inside 50.

"I hope just to come in and play a role, I know it's really cliche and boring," she laughed.

"I don't want to be anything unbelievable or anything like that.

"Hopefully, my strengths complement the other forwards and it works really well."
