Cruize summons support
Cruize Garlett is urging North Ballarat and North Melbourne fans to turn out and support the Roosters on Friday night.
The 20 year-old, who was promoted from the rookie list mid way through the season, played in last year's Grand Final win but won't be content until he has another medal around his neck.
"It would be part of history for the Roosters, it would be a good achievement and an exciting one as well," Garlett said from Etihad Stadium today.
"Hopefully the supporters come down and cheer us on, it will be a great game of footy and a close one."
But the number 32 has no illusions about the challenge that lays ahead if the Roosters are to achieve the ultimate success.
"The Bullants play exciting footy, their small forwards have been kicking goals, their backs have been tight, and their midfielders have been working hard as well so it will be a tight tussle."
Garlett played 18 games in North Ballarat's flag winning side of 2008, and performed in a key role in the Grand Final with an important goal in the second quarter.
But the former Perth player knew he had a lot of work to do to make it at the highest level.
"One thing I really wanted to work on was my fitness, I needed to improve in that area to play at the elite level," he said.
A strong pre-season in the gym and on the training track saw Garlett play in North Melbourne's NAB Cup and Challenge matches of 2009, but he was ineligible to play during the season proper due to his status as a rookie. He spent much of the first half of the season in a midfield role at the Roosters before a mid-season promotion made way for his AFL debut in round 12.
Rounds 21 and 22 were breakout games as he picked up 20 possessions against the Saints, and then 23 against Port Adelaide to finish the season on a high.
But with North Melbourne's season over, Garlett returned to play a vital role in the Roosters first two finals. Now only one game remains and the former WA representative is set to play a big part in the result.
"I'm very excited, I played here last year and it was a good time, hopefully the boys can get up for another one and put on a good show for the crowd."
Garlett and the Roosters will take part in the 2009 VFL Grand Final this Friday night at Etihad Stadium. Entry is just $20 for adults, and kids under 15 are FREE with the first bounce taking place at 7.10pm.
