The Brisbane Lions are open to parting ways with contracted key forward Josh Schache if a suitable deal can be reached in the upcoming trade period.

However, if a fair deal cannot be reached, the No.2 selection from the 2015 NAB AFL Draft will remain at the club.

Schache ended months of speculation by putting pen to paper on a new deal in June that saw him commit to the club until the end of 2019.

However, the Victorian has battled homesickness and skipped the NEAFL Grand Final to return to his hometown of Seymour.

Lions football manager David Noble and Schache's manager David Trotter both told The Age an amicable resolution had been met regarding the left-footer's future.

"I met with Josh and Trotts and asked if he felt settled, and offered the option of a return if an opportunity arose in the trade period," Noble said.

Trotter confirmed Schache was willing to stay at the Lions.

"Josh has not walked out and neither is he being pushed out. We had a discussion and agreed if something can work out for both parties then we are open to it," Trotter said.

"If not, Josh is contracted and will return to Brisbane."

"Josh re-signed earlier in the year because he wanted to do the right thing by Brisbane and to end the speculation around him because there was intense pressure on him at the time and he thought the best thing would be to give it another two years and try to work through it."

Schache's father Laurence lined up in 29 games for the Brisbane Bears.
