The North Melbourne Kangaroos have selected Sandringham Dragons forward Harry Sheezel with pick No.3 in the 2022 AFL Draft.

Before selecting Sheezel, Brisbane matched North's bid for father-son prospect Will Ashcroft having garnered the necessary points to claim the midfielder, therefore leaving the Roos with picks No.3 and No.4.

North also engaged in a pick swap with the Lions earlier in the evening, which saw the former trade out pick No.40 in exchange for pick No.63 and a future third-round selection (tied to Melbourne).

A game-changing prospect with an abundance of X-factor, Sheezel brings incredible goalkicking smarts and the valuable ability to create something from nothing.

Not only can the NAB League premiership player hit the scoreboard frequently, but he is also a massive threat in aerial contests despite standing at 184cm.

With the Victorian's addition to the list, North Melbourne's dynamic fleet of medium and small forwards featuring the likes of Paul Curtis and Cam Zurhaar is beginning to look even more dangerous.

Hailing from Ajax Junior Football Club and Mount Scopus College, Sheezel became just the fifth player to register three 200 or more ranking point matches in the NAB League since Champion Data started recording statistics.

This included a phenomenal 28-disposal and six-goal outing against Tasmania in early April where he was simply unstoppable, finishing with 237 ranking points.

He has also proven he can perform when the stakes are high. The 18-year-old booted four majors from 13 touches in the NAB League Grand Final to finish third in best-on-ground voting.

Sheezel's class again shone through when he represented Victoria Metro in the U18 Championships. Across four games, the ever-present attacking threat kicked eight goals and averaged 15 disposals and three marks per match.

After an explosive individual campaign, Sheezel was also named as a forward pocket in the U18 Boys All-Australian Team.

Senior coach Alastair Clarkson was at Marvel Stadium to present Sheezel with his first Kangaroos guernsey.
