Could Brent Harvey still be playing as a 41-year-old? Kevin Bartlett thinks so.
In fact, Bartlett, one of just four members of the 400-club, says Harvey could break another magical milestone before his career is over.
“Let me put this on the record. I think Brent Harvey could play 500 games,” Bartlett said on SEN on Thursday.
“By the end of the home and away series Harvey should have 431 games next to his name. I know I was able to eke out an extra 4 years as a permanent small forward to get to 400 games.
“Harvey still has pace which is still a very important ingredient for a small man’s make up and he kicks goals, another nice attribute for staying in the team. Plus North have a good side and he will get plenty of support over the next few years.”
Harvey’s six-goal haul against Melbourne had the football world talking, and he’s just 14 games away from reaching Michael Tuck’s all-time mark of 426.
But Bartlett said North’s number 29 shouldn’t stop there.
“I’ve always said the modern player should play longer than those of yesteryear.
“For starters it’s full time and the player’s welfare is top priority. Personalised training programs can be set and the best coaches, conditioners, doctors, physios and dieticians are working around the clock to give players the best preparation to play.
“Records are only made to be broken and he’ll go past Michael Tuck’s 426 before the end of the year, then set his sights on starting up the 500 club.
“Good luck Boomer, go for it.”
