The AFL has approved an assistance package to North Melbourne following Monday’s Commission meeting.

The League confirmed the Kangaroos will receive the following:

  1. a 2023 second- and 2023 third-round pick that must be traded to another club or clubs for at least one player.
  2. the rights to add an additional two rookies on the list in 2023

The draft selections must be traded in the upcoming 2022 AFL Trade Period or they will be forfeited.

The 2023 selections will be placed immediately after the Roos’ existing picks in the 2023 NAB AFL Draft.

North Melbourne CEO Ben Amarfio said the club now has some clarity as it heads towards this year’s trade period.

“We thank the AFL for considering our submission,” Amarfio said. “We feel like we had a strong case for some on-field assistance based on our recent performances.

“We’re one of very few clubs to have never received priority selections previously. This will now give us some real flexibility as we look to add some experience to our young and talented list.

“James Gallagher and Brady Rawlings have worked hard to get this package across the line and we now look ahead to the upcoming trade period.”

North Melbourne currently holds the first selection in this year’s draft, as well as two picks in the fourth round.
