North Melbourne will head back to Tasmania for its 2016 Australia Post AFL Community Camp.
The Roos will actively engage people and children involved in grassroots football and spend time in communities all over the state.
“When we first secured games in Hobart we vowed to give back to the Tasmanian people through various visits, clinics and appearances,” Roos’ captain Andrew Swallow told NMFC.com.au.
“All the boys are looking forward to getting back down to Tassie to continue meet and greet the fans down there and encourage the kids to either get involved or stay involved in the best sport in the world; AFL.”
Players will travel to all corners of Tasmania in February including Hobart, Devonport, Burnie, Rosebury, Ulverstone and Oatlands.
“We will split up during parts of the camp to try and cover as much territory as possible in order to reach as many people as we can,” Swallow added.
“While we’ll ultimately be spreading the word about football and our great club North Melbourne, the main focus of this camp is to give back to the community.”
The Australia Post AFL Community Camps will have a renewed focus on school visits this year while also undertaking AFL super clinics and training sessions in the community and for local coaches.
North now boasts two Tasmanians on its list with cult hero Ben Brown and new draftee Mitch Hibberd.
The Roos’ camp is a further coup for Tasmania with the club already securing a blockbuster lineup next season which includes the state’s first ever Friday Night football fixture.
North will take on the Tigers under lights at Blundstone Arena in Round 11 on June 3. It also plays Melbourne in Round 3 on April 10 and Sydney in Round 22 on August 20.
“Before the first Sherrin is bounced in season 2016, the Australia Post AFL Community Camps start the year with players visiting over 60 locations right across the country allowing them to share their collective passion for the game by bringing people together and promoting participation at the grassroots level,” AFL General Manager Game and Market Development, Simon Lethlean said.
“More than ever before, we are seeing players drafted from all corners of Australia so it’s important that the next generation get the chance to meet their heroes and maybe even take part in an AFL super clinic run by them.
North will also travel to Werribee and Wyndham in Victoria.
