North Melbourne will welcome back three of its best players on Saturday with captain Andrew Swallow, vice-captain Drew Petrie and brilliant midfielder Leigh Adams named in the 27-man squad to play Geelong.

Swallow flew to Townsville last week, but was rested while Petrie sat out to give the coaches a look at a younger forward-line against the Gold Coast Suns, which included Robbie Tarrant and Aaron Black.

Adams has now fully recovered from two post-season shoulder operations and will play his first competitive match of the year when he runs out with the team at Simonds Stadium.

Majak Daw is also in the squad after recovering from swelling in his right knee and will be expected to help out Dan Currie in the ruck with Todd Goldstein playing in the VFL for structural reasons.

After losing five kilograms in hot and humid conditions at Tony Ireland Stadium last week, big-bodied forward Tarrant has earned himself a much needed rest.

Jamie Macmillan will be welcomed back after resting up for a week while Nathan Grima was a chance to play after getting over his back troubles, but will instead be eased in through via the VFL.

North will be required to select three emergencies from its list of 27 for the match and will experience the cap on interchanges per quarter (80) for the first time.
