Joel Tippett is likely to play his first game since tearing his pectoral muscle in Round 10 against Geelong. The key defender will resume with North Ballarat on Sunday if he jumps two final training hurdles on Wednesday and Friday.

The 25-year-old was elevated off the Roos’ rookie list earlier this season and made his debut for the club in the Round 6 win over Fremantle in Perth. His availability, along with Nathan Grima, is crucial to North’s run home and ensuing finals chances with the club undersized in the key defensive posts. While Scott Thompson, Michael Firrito and Lachlan Hansen have battled hard to get the job done in the backline each week, they’re often undersized and mismatched on opponents.

If cleared to play in the VFL, Tippett could line up alongside Daniel Wells, who is due to return after 14 weeks out with a foot injury.

Jamie Macmillan will need another week to recover from his broken fibula with the club in the process of getting more fitness and conditioning work into him. There’s much better news for Tim McGenniss with the tagger’s recovery from a shoulder injury advancing ahead of time, allowing him to possibly return for Werribee this weekend.

Live-wire forward Robbie Nahas is now eyeing a Round 22 return date after a shoulder injury.
