The AFL’s all-time games record-holder and North Melbourne premiership player Brent Harvey has tonight been immortalised with his induction into the Australian Football Hall of Fame.
'Boomer' represented the Kangaroos in 432 matches from 1996 to 2016, including the club's fourth premiership in 1999.
He served as captain for three seasons, was named an All-Australian on four occasions, and stands alone in having won five Syd Barker Medals as the Roos' best and fairest.
In Round 19, 2016 Harvey surpassed Hawthorn champion Michael Tuck's games record tally of 426 matches, a record the Hawthorn champion had held for nearly a quarter of a century.
Among Harvey's other honours are a position in North Melbourne's team of the 20th century, and the E.J. Whitten Medal as best afield for Victoria in 1999.
He also captained his country in the 2008 International Rules series against Ireland, and wore the green and gold on 11 occasions.
“Everyone at North Melbourne congratulates Boomer on this well-deserved achievement,” North Melbourne CEO Ben Amarfio said.
“To this day, he continues to work to such a high standard and his passion and service to our football club is second-to-none. He epitomises professionalism.
“Boomer has been inducted to the AFL’s Hall of Fame in his first year of eligibility, due recognition of how great a player he was.
“The amazing thing about Boomer is his unbelievable resilience and strength of character to beat the odds.
“He defied all the odds, proved many wrong and climbed to the top of the mountain to become the longest playing footballer in the history of the game. A true champion.”
Harvey joins 23 former North Melbourne players in the Hall of Fame, among them premiership teammates Wayne Carey, Glenn Archer and Anthony Stevens.
Premiership players Malcolm Blight and Barry Cable have been enshrined as Legends, along with inaugural premiership coach Ron Barassi and one-time Roos coach John Kennedy Sr.
