The North Melbourne Tasmanian Kangaroos' night of nights will be held this Friday evening and each award on offer looks to be as hotly contested as ever.
In his second season in charge Darren Crocker once again led his side to a finals finish, ending a highly competitive home and away season in fourth place with seven wins and three losses.
Unfortunately for the Kangaroos their season was ended in the first week of finals by a rampant Dockers side who not only knocked North out of the competition, but ended its brilliant unbeaten record at Arden Street.
There will be five awards on offer during the Club Champion Dinner. The Best Clubwoman, Shinboner of the Year, Best Young Player, Mazda Next Level Performer Award and Best and Fairest gongs are all up for grabs.
The top contenders - Best and Fairest
In alphabetical order
Jenna Bruton
After playing on the wing for much of the last two seasons, Jenna Bruton returned to a far more inside midfield heavy role this season and it paid dividends for the 2019 best and fairest winner's output.
Averaging 18.3 disposals and 4.5 tackles a game, she also kicked her long-awaited first goal in Kangaroos colours, splitting the big sticks for the team's first goal of the year.
Bella Eddey
After a debut season adapting to the level of AFLW, former number 13 draft pick Bella Eddey exploded for the Kangaroos last season.
Playing primarily on the wing, Eddey received a NAB Rising Star nomination for her Round 7 performance against Collingwood and averaged 9.7 disposals at a staggering 83.2 per cent efficiency.
Jas Garner
The back-to-back best and fairest winner is aiming for a three-peat in 2021, and she's certainly among the red-hot favourites for the award given her strong second half of the season.
She finished the campaign as the team's leading goalkicker with 11 for the season and averaged almost 21 disposals per game. Her 29-disposal performance against Richmond in Round 6 was perhaps the strongest individual performance of any Kangaroo in any game for the season.
Aileen Gilroy
Aileen Gilroy continues to go from strength to strength in AFLW, with her fourth year in the competition proving to be her most effective so far.
The 29-year-old joined her teammates late for pre-season given the COVID restrictions at the time, however she hit the ground running during the campaign and only grew as the season went on.
She averaged 12 disposals and 5.7 intercepts per game, while her pace and kicking ability from the back half of the ground was, once again, a lethal weapon for the side.
Emma Kearney
A move into the backline paid dividends for the skipper who took absolutely no time to not only become acquainted with the role, but establish herself as one of the top rebounding defenders in the competition.
Kearney averaged a team-high 7.2 intercepts per game over the season as well as 19.1 disposals and 323.2m gained.
After a second-placed finish in 2019, and third-placed finishes in 2020 and 2021, could this be the year the skipper finally comes out with the best and fairest medal?
Emma King
Emma King became just the second person in club history to lead North's AFLW side out onto the field after Emma Kearney missed the Round 1 clash with Geelong, and the vice-captain put together another strong campaign in her dual ruck/forward role.
Partnering with Kim Rennie for much of the year, King's ability to cover the ground and dominate her opponents in the ruck proved a crucial outlet for the Kangaroos all season long. She averaged a team-high 11.3 hitouts and 1.5 intercepts per game.
Mia King
It's highly likely that in the future North fans will look back on last season as the campaign in which Mia King announced herself to the competition.
Afforded more midfield time thanks to not only Emma Kearney's move into defence, but also her own strong personal development in 2021, King proved to be a crucial cog in the middle of the ground.
A contested machine, she averaged a team-high 6.2 tackles per game along with 14.5 disposals. She also earned a NAB AFLW Rising Star nomination in Round 1 and kicked three goals for the season.
Ash Riddell
The superstar ball-magnet put together a historically good campaign in 2022, setting a number of records as the season went on.
Riddell equalled the game disposals record in Round 1 with 35 before shattering it in Round 10 with 42 touches. She also ended the home and away campaign with 299 disposals - another AFLW record.
She's been close to winning several high-profile awards already this season having tied for second place in the AFLCA Champion Player of the Year award, finishing outright second in the AFLPA Most Valuable Player award and finishing fourth in the League Best and Fairest award. All three gongs were won by Brisbane's Emily Bates.
For Best and Fairest voting, the AFLW senior coach rates each player out of 10 points and the assistant coaches provide a combined rating for each player worth 10 points, making 20 points the most possible votes in any round.
