In the Mix: Round 15
Lindsay Thomas’ suspension has opened up one spot and there are at least two players which may force their way back in.
However Lindsay Thomas’ suspension has opened up one spot and there are at least two players who may force their way back in not through a recent performance, but more so because of their reputations.
NMFC.com.au has a look at those in the mix for a call-up.
Have your say on the potential changes below.
Scott McMahon
After missing two weeks with an ankle injury, North has declared McMahon fit to play. Whether that means in the VFL or AFL is still to be determined as his fitness will come into question.
Ben Cunnington
Trained on Tuesday but it's still a ‘wait and see’ as to whether the midfielder declares himself available. Consider him a lock. Private family reasons have kept him playing for the past two weeks.
Other contenders
(alphabetical order)
Liam Anthony
In one week, out the next. Unfortunately Anthony can’t seem to string together games at AFL level lately but his attitude can’t be questioned. The hard running midfielder had a day out for the Roosters against the Zebras and keeps collecting the ball at will.
Last week: 33 possessions, 29 uncontested, 14 marks, 4 inside 50s, 2 goals
Daniel Currie
In his third week back from injury, Currie was solid for the Tigers in the VFL teaming up with Majak Daw in the ruck and forward. While continuing to get his touch back, the big man was able to provide a forward target and kick a vital goal against the Bombers.
Last week: 19 possessions, 6 marks, 1 goal
Majak Daw
One of the players who got Werribee going in its last gasp victory over Essendon, Daw is doing everything in his power to earn another AFL game. His ruckwork and ability to hit the scoreboard are areas holding him in good stead.
Last week: 16 possessions, 6 marks and 2 goals
Luke Delaney
The older Delaney is in the middle of a terrific run as a defender for North Ballarat beating his opponents week in, week out. The only thing keeping from playing his first AFL match of the year are those ahead of him in the Roos' lineup. However with Nathan Grima subbed out at the weekend against the Giants, the match committee could opt for a different looking back six knowing Delaney is more than ready for the challenge.
Last Week: 14 possessions, 7 marks, 3 spoils
Cam Delaney
Like his older brother, Cam Delaney was praised by the Roosters’ coaches for a solid game in the VFL against Sandringham. He had similar numbers to Luke and is putting together an impressive season as a key defender.
Last week: 14 possessions, 7 marks, 7 spoils, 3 tackles
Taylor Garner
A small forward, Garner’s chances of a debut have been boosted on the back of Thomas’ suspension. If he’s thrown in against the Tigers, it will be a significant test but the youngster has shown an ability to thrive under pressure in the VFL.
Last Week: 12 possessions, 8 marks, 5 tackles
Ben Jacobs
On the verge of another AFL game, Jacobs could also be considered after a solid game for North Ballarat. Making his name as an inside midfielder, the former Power defender is becoming more of a complete player each week.
Last week: 18 possessions, 6 tackles
Sam Wright
After being omitted from the North side, Wright had an uncharacteristically quiet outing for Werribee. However the Roos may have to look past his VFL performance and rely on his class and skill against Richmond with Thomas’ absence set to leave a big void.
Last week: 8 possessions
