The last time the Kangaroos played a Round 9 fixture in Tasmania, it turned their season around.

While they were the away team this time last year, defeating Hawthorn by seven points at UTAS Stadium in Launceston, the Apple Isle could once again be the turning point for North Melbourne in 2022.

It was a midfield masterclass from the likes of Jy Simpkin, Luke Davies-Uniacke and Ben Cunnington that led the way last season, this time around Nick Larkey will be hoping to lead the charge from full-forward to take down Port Adelaide at Blundstone Arena.

This fixture is the second time North has travelled to Hobart this year, and Larkey hopes the fans come out in full voice for the clash.

"We love the crowd down here. It's a really good vibe, especially on gameday with the green grass up there on the hill," Larkey said.

"We don't come down here heaps, I think it's four or five games. When we do it's always good to see our fans down here. They're pretty passionate and loyal.

"Hopefully we get a good crowd because it's a great atmosphere when there is."

The Kangaroos and the Power head into this contest with vastly different form lines. Port is flying off the back of three straight wins. North, on the other hand, has faltered in recent games.

After the Round 2 victory over West Coast there's no doubting North's best performance of the season came in its Round 4 defeat to Sydney. With some more luck and composure that 11-point margin could easily have swung the other way.

The most frustrating part of the Kangaroos' recent performances is that they have shown they're capable of taking it up to strong sides. 

"It's a matter of executing on gameday. We've been training really hard and putting all the steps in to affirm the game plan … and for whatever reason against Sydney it clicked," Larkey said.

"Games like that in the situation we're in right now are actually really good for us, because we know we can do it.

"Belief isn't a problem for us because we know our good footy is there. It's a matter of how we can galvanise on gameday and execute. It's promising for us.

"There've been a couple of quarters here and there where we've shown we can do it as well, but obviously we need to do it for four."
