The number one question among North fans this summer has been whether ruckmen Todd Goldstein and Braydon Preuss can both play in the one side.
Both players have had impressive pre-seasons to date, leaving coach Brad Scott in somewhat of a conundrum, albeit an exciting one, as to whether there is room for both in North’s 22.
“I think we’re still working through that ourselves,” Scott told AFL.com.au.
“We’re always looking at getting our best 22 out there and playing, and Preussy is certainly capable of being in that, it’s just a matter of working through that structure.”
With the first JLT Community Series match just days away, Scott believes the pre-season matches will be a good opportunity to experiment with the team’s balance.
“In combination with Ben Brown as a forward, we’ve got to look at how we’ll structure up, but that’s what we’ll use the JLT for,” Scott said.
If both big men can’t feature, it seems 29-year-old Goldstein might get the initial nod, but there’s still plenty to play out.
“The form that Goldy’s been in through this pre-season suggests that he’s every chance of returning to his All-Australian form, so that’s going to make it hard for Preussy to push him out,” Scott revealed.
Goldstein and Preuss played 19 and eight games respectively last season, but with a month still to go before Round 1, there is still time for both parties to stake their claims for selection.
