Jack Ziebell is a step closer to finishing his career as a one-club player after signing a new two-year deal with North Melbourne.

The 30-year-old has committed to the Roos until at least the end of 2023, following arguably the best season of his career.

The North skipper averaged a career-high 25 disposals a game in 2021, playing in a new role as the leader of the back six. 

GM Football Brady Rawlings said the club was delighted to secure the signature of the number seven.

“Jack’s been a star of the club on and off the field ever since he set foot in the place,” Rawlings said.

“The negotiations took a little bit of time to work through, but Jack was comfortable with how things were progressing right through the process. 

“Playing down back was a new experience for ‘Ziebs’ and he took to it like the professional we know he is. He was a calming influence when things were pretty rough early in the season and his leadership was invaluable as we turned things around in the second half of the year.

“We’re rapt he’s with us for at least another two years, as we take this exciting young group forward.”

Ziebell has shown amazing versatility across 13 seasons at North, playing through the midfield, in attack and in defence, and has captained North for the last five seasons. 

“Ziebs is probably the best leader I’ve ever played with,” teammate Kayne Turner said.

“He just does anything for the team.

“He’s just so fearless and I love playing with him. His leadership is immeasurable in this young group.” 

Ziebell has played 239 games and is on track to join just 18 other Shinboners in the illustrious 250-club. He also sits in the top 30 in the Roos’ history for goals kicked, with 165. 

“I love playing with ‘Ziebs’,” Tarryn Thomas added. “He’s tough, he’s reliable. All the boys love him and trust him.” 

Ziebell was originally selected with pick 9 at the 2008 Draft.
