With North’s 2018 season complete, North Media analyses the performance of each player by using statistics, a coach review and season highlights. Next up is first-year prospect Luke Davies-Uniacke.
Davies-Uniacke’s season
Luke Davies-Uniacke took major strides in his first year at Arden Street.
The prized prospect fast-tracked his development at both AFL and VFL level, closing the season with a series of dominant displays in the royal blue and white.
It came as no surprise when the fleet-footed midfielder, who was secured with fourth pick in the 2017 National Draft, was offered an extension to his existing deal, allowing him to commit his future to the Roos until 2021.
The 19-year-old made his senior debut in difficult conditions in Round 1, tallying eight disposals on a waterlogged ground against the Gold Coastin Cairns.
However, his form in the second half of the season offered glimpses to his potential, particularly his efforts against both Sydney and St Kilda, where he acquired 16 disposals and laid five tackles.
Davies-Uniacke dominated in his final three games at VFL level, averaging 24 disposals against top eight sides Collingwood, Williamstown and Footscray.

What he said
On making his AFL debut in Round 1
"A couple of players told me that I could be playing, but I didn't really want to believe it.
"You're always hoping to play round one and break into the side, but the first thing is playing your role out on the training track and just preparing."
What the coach said – Brad Scott
Ahead of Davies-Uniacke’s debut
"We always wanted to give him opportunity through the pre-season games, but he's got to hold up his end of the bargain with his fitness levels and understanding of the way we want to play.
"We understand he's an 18-year-old playing his first game of footy, so he's picked himself in terms of his performance, but we've got to be very careful not to put too high an expectation on Luke too early.
"Some of the best midfielders of all time have taken a couple of years to find their feet at AFL level. Based purely on performance, he's done enough to be picked."
