Wayne Schwass Cup
As North Melbourne begins to find some consistent form, some Kangaroos on the other side of the globe are also enjoying a successful run.
American namesake, the Nashville Kangaroos are also flying with ten wins and just one loss.
Nashville is coming up against the Chicago Swans this weekend as they battle it out for the Wayne Schwass Cup in the Mid American Australian Football League. The cup was named in recognition of the former North Melbourne and Sydney great who had an illustrious career spanning 282 games.
“It’s definitely very flattering to have a cup named after you and because of my time at both North and Sydney, it’s a good fit with the Nashville Kangaroos and Chicago Swans,” Schwass told kangaroos.com.au.
“I’m very interested to hear how the game goes as I’ve been told the two teams share a pretty fierce rivalry.”
The premiership player and two time best and fairest winner for North Melbourne has said it is great to see Aussie rules football taking off in the United States and credits the Nashville Kangaroos for their hard work in promoting our game abroad.
“It’s brilliant to see guys like the Nashville Kangas taking AFL footy to the United States. Aussie rules is a pretty unique game and extremely different to the style of football they play over there so I think it’s great we have such passionate people playing and endorsing our game overseas.
“It’s even better to see them playing in the royal blue and white colours.”
