Dog-fight like final, says McIntosh
The Kangaroos ruckman says Brent Harvey's 250th match will bring out the best in the team
The sixth placed Kangaroos take on the third placed Bulldogs in what is one of the most anticipated games of the coming round.
“It is going to be a finals like game this week. The Bulldogs haven’t lost a game yet and are going along quite nicely. It is a big challenge for us as a young group and hopefully we can come up with the goods,” McIntosh said.
The match is Brent Harvey’s 250th which McIntosh says will increase the playing group’s hunger.
“It is a very important game. I think we’ve had a pretty good record in the past with milestone games. I’m sure all the guys will be revved up to win for Boomer. He’s been such a great player for the club. We’ll be pretty pumped up for it,” he said.
McIntosh said he was not surprised by the lack of attention the Kangaroos had received despite sitting comfortably in the top eight.
“We probably haven’t played our best footy whereas Geelong and Hawthorn are playing their best footy. They are flying at the minute and we have a lot of improvement left as a side,” he said.
“We’re happy with how we’re going. We’re playing some inconsistent football but our best is yet to come and hopefully people see that for the rest of the year.”
McIntosh was one of the AFL’s most improved players last year but admits he has had trouble replicating the success of his breakout season.
“My own form has been pretty inconsistent. I’ve had some good games, some bad games, some good quarters and some bad quarters,” he said.
McIntosh had some consoling words for Alan Obst who punctured a lung in his debut match against West Coast last week.
“I spoke to Alan yesterday. It’s not the greatest way to spend your birthday. From what I’ve heard he will be back to 100 per cent in the next few weeks and be back playing in a month. He won’t forget his first game in a hurry,” he said.
