Majak Daw could provide the perfect foil for Todd Goldstein in 2016, media commentator and former Kangaroo David King says.
North has already committed to promoting Daw as its nominated rookie, but with the abolishment of the substitute rule and reduced interchanged cap, the perfect opportunity for a second ruckman could present itself.
“When you look at the Kangaroos’ advantage over the last couple of years it’s been Todd Goldstein’s ability to play 90 per cent of game time in the ruck,” King told SEN.
“Now there will be the ability to double team him, because you can rest a ruckman on the bench and he can rest for longer.”
Daw and rookie Braydon Preuss shared the ruck duties against St Kilda on Saturday with the latter showing he can cut it at the level.
“Do you go with one and a makeshift? Or do you go back to having two bona fide ruckmen? I think everyone will do something very different and I think it will take some clubs six-to-eight weeks to find out what that looks like.” King said.
It makes for an intriguing selection battle leading into round one with North also able to use Ben Brown and Drew Petrie in the ruck.
