North Melbourne has announced its VFL leadership group, with the 2021 season-opener just days away.
Flynn Appleby has been named as captain, while Louis Cunningham and Kade Answerth will support the new skipper as co-vice-captains.
Appleby played 11 games across two years for Collingwood after he was selected with pick 6 in the 2018 Rookie Draft.
The 22-year-old trained with North’s AFL list for much of the 2021 pre-season in his pursuit of an AFL list spot.
Answerth won the Sandringham Zebras' best and fairest in 2017. An experienced VFL campaigner, he played 70 games and kicked 30 goals for the St Kilda affiliate before crossing to the Kangaroos ahead of the 2021 season.
Having arrived at Arden Street ahead of the 2018 season, Cunningham is at his most dangerous in the back-half of the ground, providing run, drive and leadership off the half-back flank.
North’s VFL squad boasts a host of talent including former Hawthorn recruits, Harry Jones and Matt Walker, former Gold Coast recruit, Jacob Heron, and Southport and Werribee player, Josh Clayton.
Alex Polidoris has recommitted, with Tyler Roos, Ryley, Connor Byrne, Ben Speight also signing.
Mark Baker, Curtis Brown, Hamish Dick, Bailey Boag, Elijah Reardon, Jake Steele, Miller Hodge, Thomas Donnelly, Callum Kilpatrick, Hamish Murphy and Jack Watkins, have signed as Development Listed players.
