There’s no better judge of a football environment than a living legend like Brent Harvey.

Having spent two and a half decades at Arden St, the AFL games record holder has witnessed some of North’s greatest highs and most disappointing lows.

While he acknowledges the Kangaroos are currently young and developing, he says it’s imperative fans support a club that has achieved so much and provided them so much joy over a long period of time.

“I heard on the radio that North has the fifth-highest winning percentage since 1975, and the fourth most wins, including four flags. We’re a club that’s used to being pretty successful and we want to keep that going,” he said.

“We don’t want to label this year as a development year because we’re here to try and win games. While there may be some difficult weeks, North supporters need to get behind the kids and back them in by coming to games and cheering them on from the stands.”

Harvey played 432 games across 21 seasons, including the club’s 1999 Premiership, and strongly backs new coach David Noble’s pathway to success.

“I’m super confident we’re on the right path over the next couple of years,” he continued.

“David Noble is a great coach, he’s a great educator, he’s a great teacher.”

As a development coach, Harvey acts as a strong guiding hand for the Kangaroos of the future and says the early promise of Tom Powell and Charlie Lazzaro is indicative of the club’s future.

“With Will Phillips to make his debut, this week we have three first-year players, so fans are going to see youth and they’re going to see excitement,” he said.

“It’s great to see the young players getting a chance and I’d love to see all six draftees get a go at some stage.”
