Draftees Tom Powell and Charlie Lazzaro are set to debut against Port Adelaide on Sunday afternoon.

The pair were told the news by coach David Noble following main training on Thursday.

Powell has seen his stock rise over the course of the pre-season. The midfielder/forward averaged 33 disposals and 8 clearances a game in his draft-year, playing in the SANFL.

He recently impressed in the AAMI Community Series clash against Hawthorn, where he collected 16 disposals in just over a half.

Powell says he can’t wait to pull on the jumper for the first time this weekend.

“It’s a dream come true … I didn’t come in with the idea that I was going to play Round 1,” he told North Media.

“I’ve taken things one day at a time, but it’s nice to get reward for effort.”

Lazzaro was taken with pick 36 in the NAB AFL Draft, and hasn’t put a foot wrong since his arrival to the club.

The North recruit has the ability to play in the midfield or the forward line, bringing versality to the Roos’ line-up.

Lazzaro is equally comfortable in the heat of the contest, or out wide in space. A tireless and courageous player, he averaged 20 disposals a game as a bottom-age member of the Geelong Falcons.

The number 35 impressed in pre-season games against St Kilda and Hawthorn, with his work ethic, running and impact around the contest highlights of his approach.

Lazzaro says he is keen to repay the faith shown in him by the coaching staff.

“It’s pretty surreal, I was lost for words when ‘Nobes’ told me,” he told North Media.

“I’ve loved it here so far. Ever since I stepped in, it’s been all I’ve wanted to do.”

Earlier in the day, Noble revealed recruits Jaidyn Stephenson, Aidan Corr and Lachie Young would all play against the Power
