David Noble says he’s been “extremely impressed” with the North Melbourne playing group’s willingness to learn and adjust to new ideas.
Speaking on 3AW on Wednesday night, Noble pointed to defence and scoring as areas of improvement for the Roos in 2021.
“Whether we re-shape our defence … we need to become better at our ball movement to be able to score in better positions,” he said.
“It’s probably broader than that though; it’s our ability to take on challenges in a pro-active sense. We’ve got to look at areas we might fall over at, as opportunities to grow.”
A new-look coaching group and new-look playing group is bringing plenty of energy to Arden Street.
“We’ve got a really exciting group collectively, if you have a look at our list from our youth to our more experienced guys,” Noble said.
“I guess it’s just the freshness of ideas; you are able to look at it in an unbiased manner and re-shape some things really quickly.”
Among the additions to the Roos’ playing list, Jaidyn Stephenson, Atu Bosenavulagi, Aidan Corr and Lachie Young.
Coupled with draftees like Will Phillips and Tom Powell, North has undergone significant change.
“I’ve been extremely impressed with how our guys have responded,” Noble said.
“Both players and staff, our whole club is really full of energy. There’s an excitement around what we want to be and what we want to stand for going forward.
“There’s no challenge that we’ve talked about with our group that they’ve shied away from, whether it’s the manner they want to play, how they are perceived currently in the marketplace … that’s what’s really enthused me, is our opportunity to take on those challenges and grow as a result of what we put in front of them.”
