Hawthorn has landed star midfielder Jaeger O'Meara within the final half an hour of the NAB AFL Trade Period after a tortuous negotiation with Gold Coast.

O'Meara, 22, requested a trade to the Hawks on September 13 but it took until the final minutes of trading for the Suns to agree to a deal.

Hawthorn traded pick No.10 and a future second-round pick in the 2017 draft to secure O'Meara, who has not played for two seasons.

The highly rated O'Meara won the NAB AFL Rising Star Award but has been on the sidelines with a knee injury since the end of 2014.
