In just a matter of days, Brent Harvey will be back at Arden Street but while the games record holder will be taking on a new role, it’s far from a fresh start.

“It’s my first day is it? How do we explain that?” he joked when asked about his imminent return as a skills coach and mentor.

“I’m really excited to sink my teeth into something new and it will be great to hang around the club for another couple of years.”

‘Boomer’ will work closely with North’s draftees from Tuesday (ironically the 29th) and explained his new role was inspired by another one of North’s favourite sons.

“A few years ago when Brady Rawlings retired, he came back and worked with the guys when they got drafted,” Harvey said.

“He just taught them a little bit about the history and how hard you need to train to become an elite footballer, so if I can share a little bit of my experience with them and hopefully teach them something along the way, that’d be pretty cool I reckon.

“I’ll do some skills work with them and work pretty closely with some of the other coaches, probably more the development coaches.”

Harvey’s been busy since the end of the season. He spent a month in the Unites States with his family and even took his kids to Disneyland.

“It was actually on my bucket list to do,” he said.

He’s also been getting his hands dirty while preparing to open a new venue in Epping called ‘Miller Street’.

“It’s just a bit of a sports bar … a nice place to come and relax in the area,” Harvey said.

“I do plan on going behind the bar and pulling some beers but I’m not sure about the late nights, it might just be on a Sunday afternoon or something like that when a few of my mates are over.”

And his footballing days are far from over with the soon to be 39-year-old set to play alongside his brother, Shane, at North Heidelberg in the Northern Football League (NFL).

“There’s no additional weights sessions or yoga sessions that come with it so it’s fantastic,” Harvey commented.

“My brother is down there obviously so I always said I’d go back and play with him and I’m very excited about it.”
