North Melbourne club legend, Glenn Archer, has paid tribute to long-time club servant Aub Devlyn, who has passed away.
Devlyn performed countless roles at the club, most notably as property steward for 28 years, and more recently managing North’s supply of footballs.
Archer said he will hold a special place in his heart for a wonderful club person.
“Aub was just a fantastic guy,” he reminisced.
“I played for 17 years and he was always the common denominator. He was like part of the furniture.
“We were very close but he was close with everyone, you would describe him like your grandfather. I just really enjoyed his company.”
Archer described Devlyn as a quintessentially Australian, fun and loyal man.
“When I used to walk in the rooms Aub would always be there with a smile on his face. There was always banter … I’d walk in and he’d take the mickey out of me in some way and you’d always get a laugh,” he said.
“He was someone that everyone loved and you knew you were always going to have a good laugh with him.
“If I could pick someone that was the most loyal soldier at our club, it was Aub.
“He only finished off at the club a few years ago because of old age. To go there day-in, day-out for 40-odd years, shows his incredible loyalty and passion.”
Devlyn was a North Melbourne life member and played a key role in the club’s premiership success in the 90s, as highlighted in a video with Denis Pagan in 2017.
The club would like to extend its deepest sympathies to the family and friends of Aub.
