While it might be a weekend off for most of North Melbourne’s players ahead of Round one of the AFL season, there’s still some great football to look forward to.

The club’s VFL affiliates North Ballarat and Werribee will clash at Eureka Stadium in Ballarat on Saturday afternoon for their season opener. They’re two strong teams keen to start the season off on a winning note and it’s set to be a high quality match.

The match will give several Kangaroos the chance to stake a claim for a spot in the senior side with Cruize Garlett, Luke and Cameron Delaney, Levi Greenwood and Sam Gibson all set to take part and desperate to impress.

Jack Ziebell is ineligible for North Melbourne’s season opener, meaning a midfield spot remains up for grabs for a player to put their hand up.

2012 sees the addition of Brad McKenzie, Tom Curran and Max Warren to the Roosters’ ranks, while Gavin Urquhart has made the switch from Werribee.

Under new coach Scott West, Werribee welcomes Will Sierakowski, Brad Mangan, Malcolm Lynch and Sam Gibson, while former Roo Ben Ross has also signed with the club in the off-season.

Meanwhile, Ayden Kennedy could make his long-awaited return via Werribee’s reserves team.
