The official North Melbourne Facebook page allowed the fans to be the coaches and asked what they would do to shut down several Carlton players.

Quizzed about Chris Yarran, Bryce Gibbs, Eddie Betts and captain Chris Judd, the following are some of the best responses.

Chris Yarran (Monday)

Gavin Petersen: Play Atley as a defensive forward on him!
Joshua Plunkett: Keep him out of the corridor, that's where he seems to get his most effective off the back line and more importantly forward.
Jordan Cohen: Yarran is their run. When he is on song he dominates. We need to shut him down with another quick forward who can play defensive on him.
Nick Blight: Play Sam Wright as a defensive forward on him. He has done two great shut down roles on Steve Johnson and Brendan Goddard. Wright can shut Yarran out of the game and still be dangerous when we go forward. Make Yarran accountable.

Bryce Gibbs (Tuesday)

Matthew Dower: He likes to break off half back. When we move forward, we need to have a patient build up and go long towards the full forward line to catch him off guard. When you go straight towards the full forward line man him up straight away so Carlton can find another player to go to so they can't rebound 50.
Michael Cocks: Make him accountable! He likes to break off half back but we need to hurt him going the other way! Whoever plays on him needs to hit the scoreboard! Others have to help stop his influence around the ground and almost allow him to control play from half back! He likes to run free so we can hurt him going the other way by creating pressure off half back and making them turn the ball over like against West Coast!
Sean Allen: If he plays forward Spud (Michael Firrito) will get the job, If he plays back we should use Wright in a shut down role similar to Goldsack from Collingwood and when he plays midfield either Bastinac or Anthony in a head to head role.
Simon Tabet: Sam Wright! But not a hard tag. All about awareness when Carlton have the ball because Gibbs can find space and loves the free ball. We can't allow that because he can hit the scoreboard like last year. Also, when Gibbs has the ball, he likes to pin point targets.

Eddie Betts (Wednesday)

Ben Stevens: (Scott) Thompson on him again.
Kyle Dedini: After McMahon's performance on the weekend he could keep Eddie goalless. But Grima and Thompson are both worthy also.
Michael Gostimir: Thompson! Narni (Grima) can take on one of their talls, he's such a great defender!

Chris Judd (Thursday)

Daniel Page: Play head to head, put someone on him who can win the contested ball but can run as well, no matter what you do Judd is always going to have an influence the most we can do is, play someone head to head with him and make him accountable.
Karen Welsh: Daniel Wells will go head to head with him and give him a run for his money.
Christian Gaylor: I would play Swallow on him but play loose on him and expose him going the other way , it's important to play someone who can make him have to show a defensive side. Judd has the ability to break lines so numbers around the ball is very important at stoppages.
Keith Lewis: Judd is always a nightmare for any coach to match up on I think Sammy Wright may get the job done. He did well on him in the pre season.
Rodney McCulloch: A positive negating player, someone who is fast and strong enough to handle physical pressure from his team mates and mentally tough and able to convert opportunity into attack.
