North Melbourne stars Brent Harvey, Drew Petrie, Andrew Swallow and Daniel Pratt took a much deserved break from pre-season training yesterday to attend the Mazda MPS Track Day at Sandown.

Racing legend Dick Johnson was on hand to take the players through some lessons in high speed racing and braking and their skills on the road left a little to be desired.

"Brent was driving about 40km an hour at the place you had to brake. He was getting stuck into me because I took out a couple of cones, but he was driving like a grandma." Andrew Swallow told kangaroos.com.au.

After some nervous moments, the boys got their chance to sit in the passenger seat for a hot lap with the three-time Bathurst winner.

"It was amazing; I actually got a new appreciation of racing car drivers. It's amazing how fast he was going. 190km an hour I think we got up to, and he used the brakes about 25m from the end. It was quite scary, but very, very worth doing." Brent Harvey said.

Competition winner David was then presented with a Kangaroos signed guernsey by the North Melbourne captain, before the players had the chance to test out the power of the Mazda3 MPS themselves, hitting speeds of up to180km an hour down the straight at Sandown.

Daniel Pratt stood out as the most experienced behind the wheel, while Drew Petrie had trouble just staying on the track as he ended up in the dirt on his first lap.
