MATURE-AGE draft prospect Myles Sewell has again thrust his name before the nation’s recruiters by winning the Norm Goss Medal for best-on-ground in the 2010 VFL grand final.

Sewell, whose brother Brad is a star at Hawthorn, dominated from the opening as the North Ballarat Roosters won their third consecutive premiership with a 47-point victory over the Northern Bullants at Etihad Stadium.

The 22-year-old has nominated for November’s draft and is expected to attract plenty of attention, especially after the success of fellow former VFL players Michael Barlow and Alex Silvagni at Fremantle.

Sewell, who is also set to be targeted by the Greater Western Sydney expansion club, rose to prominence last year when he won the Liston Medal for the best-and-fairest player in the VFL.

In Sunday’s grand final, Sewell was well supported by a number of North Melbourne-listed players.

Retiring forward Corey Jones booted three goals, while big man David Hale chipped in with three.

Josh Smith, who has already been delisted by the Kangaroos, also bagged three majors.

North Ballarat’s success capped a remarkable rise for the club, which only joined the VFL in 1996 after it had dominated the Ballarat league for many years.

“It’s a great moment in the history of our footy club,” triple premiership coach Gerard Fitzgerald said following the match.

“It’s a great footy club that has good relationships and a massive amount of support in a high-quality competition.”

The Roosters had the game all but wrapped up when they led by 34 points at the opening change.

“I really admired the group for the way they hit the ground running,” Fitzgerald said.

“They were motivated from within. It started at the top with the leaders and that’s the way they go about their business.

“They’ve been a great side all year.”

The Carlton-aligned Bullants were well served by a number of Blues players.

Brad Fisher continued his rapid comeback from a knee reconstruction by kicking four goals, while ruckman Sam Jacobs and midfielder David Ellard were also impressive.
