Worsfold: Pressure on North
North Melbourne’s fast-moving style of play is entertaining and risky, and it’s a game-plan Eagles’ coach John Worsfold admits will be hard to stop.
Instead, West Coast will aim to put the Kangaroos under immense pressure and have confidence in its own attacking skills.
"I think their (North Melbourne’s) footy has been pretty intense all the way through the year,” Worsfold said on Wednesday.
"They're a hard-running team and they move the ball well.
"We don't expect to shut down all their ball movement but we'll put them under pressure and aim to move the ball well ourselves."
Worsfold has a raft of options at his disposal including Will Schofield (hamstring) and Adam Selwood (arm infection) who are both ready to return.
"It's a good position for us to be in," he added.
"Some of the players that have been in the side have got opportunities, right down to Murray Newman and Jacob Brennan and Brad Sheppard, and all of those guys have performed really well.
"Decisions around team selection are going to be around players who have done enough to stay in the side or help us play our best football.
"All those guys are looking to see what the selectors are going to do this week."
News of Mark Nicoski’s premature end to the season with a hamstring injury will do little to quell the enthusiasm of the West Coast players.
"The reason they're the athletes they are is mentally they are strong, so unfortunately for 'Nico', they won't care.
"They'll feel for him but it won't affect their attitude on what they want to achieve.
"Like we did when 'Lecca' got injured at the start of the year and when Kennedy was out, we all feel for them.
"But it doesn't take our focus away from the job we're here to do. Part of our job is to not be affected by those things.”
