The North Melbourne Football Club has accessed the plans for the proposed Ballarat Eureka Stadium upgrade announced by the Brumby Government on Wednesday.

Joined by Kangaroos’ Chairman James Brayshaw, CEO Eugene Arocca and vice-captain Drew Petrie, John Brumby pledged $30 million to the project which will guarantee North Melbourne up to four games a season in regional Victoria from 2012.

The money will be spent on a new grandstand with added stadium seating to help grow the ground’s capacity to around 15,000, change rooms, coaching boxes, media facilities, oval resurfacing and a new major events precinct including an exhibition centre and show grounds.

If the Brumby Government is re-elected this weekend, North Melbourne will have made good on its promise two years ago to bring AFL games to Ballarat and the surrounding areas. The club has already invested heavily in regional Victoria with its third community camp to be held in the City of Ballarat early next year and ongoing community programs and school visits.

AFL CEO Andrew Demetriou has already backed the plan confirming the league will fixture North Melbourne home games in Ballarat after next season.
