Ever reliable McKinley
It wasn't the prettiest of games according to North development coach John Lamont, but Ben McKinley's efforts made watching it a little easier.
Not only did he do his part on the field against Coburg and play his role for the Werribee Tigers on Sunday, McKinley also took control off it.
"His leadership has been exceptional this year and the way he gets around all the guys and encourages them has been first class," Lamont told kangaroos.com.au.
The medium sized forward had 9 shots at goal and finished with 5 majors at the end of the day and 4 behinds.
"He presented really well and played in front all afternoon," Lamont added.
"His pressure without the ball was also really encouraging and he pressed up defensively.
"He kicked a great goal late after getting to the fall of the ball, took some terrific marks and also slotted one from a really tough angle too."
Lamont says McKinley's consistency should be highlighted.
"I think he's had a really good year and has worked very hard despite some tough conditions and opposition."
Thanks in part to McKinley's efforts, Werribee was able to defeat Coburg by 24-points.
Ayden Kennedy also built on his outstanding form and was again solid in defence with 21 disposals, Cam Pedersen rucked well and collected 25 touches and Will Sierakowski was valuable with 19 possessions.
"Will won some really good inside ball and showed a lot of poise in traffic," Lamont commented.
After a slow start and heavy knock to the head, Levi Greenwood ended with 21 disposals while Ben Warren returned to his best with a typical hard nosed performance which included 4 goals, 18 touches and 9 marks.
Number one ruckman Majak Daw spent 85 per cent of the game on the ground and collected 9 disposals with Malcolm Lynch increasing his output to have 17 possessions and 3 tackles to his name.
Lamont was encouraged by Brad Mangan's aggression in the contest which resulted in 12 disposals while Ben Speight had 18.
