Best in class
North's All-Australian chances are vastly different players, but each faces a huge amount of competition.
The Kangaroos' representatives are vastly different players, but each faces a huge amount of competition in their respective positions; Petrie up forward and Swallow in the middle.
Petrie has spent much of the season deep in attack and a fifth-place finish in the Coleman Medal should have him around the mark.
But the four players who kicked more goals in the home and away season are in the squad too in Jack Riewoldt, Matthew Pavlich, Lance Franklin and Tom Hawkins.
It looms as a tough task for Petrie, but with an average of more than two and a half goals a game, the third-most contested marks in the league, the sixth-most marks inside 50 and a goal-kicking strike rate better than any other player in the top 20, his season warrants great respect.
Swallow's challenge is arguably harder. In a squad that boasts 14 genuine midfielders, he's one of four captains, along with Jobe Watson, Joel Selwood, Gary Ablett, in the mix.
Of the onballers nominated, he ranks 11th in total possessions, but his value to the team can't be understated. The number nine led the league for tackles in 2012, was fifth for clearances, and ninth for contested possessions.
Petrie made the final team last year and another appearance would be remarkable, while Swallow is aiming for his first selection and it would be much deserved.
Which North Melbourne player do you think is more likely to make the team? Or could both Petrie and Swallow make the grade?
