Todd Goldstein believes two-ruckmen will work for North Melbourne despite he and Hamish McIntosh having quiet games on Saturday against Essendon.

In his fifth year, the 23-year old says the pair just need more time together.

"We both do bring something different to the table in our ruckwork. Hamish also has the really good ability to go forward and have an impact as we saw at times against Essendon,” he told Crocmedia's Sportsday program on Monday.

"I've prided myself on being able to play anywhere, so what we've worked on is just getting used to having each other in the team again. It definitely changes our structure a lot but we can make it work as long as both of us have an impact in the other role that we play."

Goldstein also recounted the moments after McIntosh’s shot after the final siren drifted wide.

"I went up to him afterwards and just tried to console him. We all know that he would kick that goal nine out of ten times. Unfortunately that was the one he missed, so I just told him to keep his head up and that it should never have come down to that one kick in the first place.

"Even though it could have won the game for us, we should never have been in that position in the first place. It was by no means his fault and he shouldn't have put the blame on himself.

"He seems like he's responded pretty well though and he's got a big chance this weekend to step up and really play a role for us."

The duo will have the chance for redemption this weekend when North travels to Hobart to take on the GWS Giants.
