North Melbourne's players could have been excused for thinking two hours of running and skills at Arden Street was enough with temperatures soaring towards 40 degrees, but training stepped up another gear on Friday afternoon at the Fight Fit Boxing Centre in South Melbourne.
Under the watchful eye of newly appointed Director of Sports Science Peter Mulkearns, the entire list began punching above their weight with Ed Lower and Daniel Wells among the stand-outs.
"It was a pretty big day for the boys. To finish off today with a session like this is pretty intense," Wells told kangaroos.com.au
"It's lucky for me that we are only hitting bags, and bags don't hit back."
Skipper Brent Harvey may be in his 16th pre-season campaign, but things don't get any easier with experience.
"It was pretty solid. We do a fair bit of boxing at the footy club, but coming into a different environment with different theories is a real change. It's nice and warm in here and I'd say the boys would have lost a couple of kilos each."
A visit from wrestler Orlando Jordan was a welcome distraction for the players, but it wasn't long before Harvey was subjected to more torture as the 250lb giant hurled the Kangaroo captain over his head.
“I think if he had have dropped me and landed on me, it would have been bye, bye little Boomer.”
