The first-year captain turned in a season befitting of the title in 2012. Playing all 23 matches to take his consecutive games streak to 89, Swallow's consistency was a highlight. He had 20 possessions or more in 21 out of 23 matches, and was the league’s leading tackler, laying five or more in 16 games. He had a career-high 17 against Melbourne.

Tasked with the responsibility of leading a young group, Swallow helped his team-mates develop and find an extra gear in their game when the pressure was on.

As Swallow begins preparations for 2013, his challenge will be to maintain his own high standards while ensuring the playing group continues to thrive under his guidance.
