With North Melbourne in-line for finals action for the first time in years, Cam Vale has a fair bit on his plate. But the acting CEO is ‘taking up the challenge’ by participating in a significant fundraising event.

The Upstream Challenge is an annual 50km run/walk from Docklands to Donvale and Vale will be front and centre when the starter’s gun is fired on Saturday, 17th November.

“A terrific North supporter and chairman of the Upstream Foundation Gordon Hoen started the event and asked me to participate this year,” Vale explained.

“I was more than happy to do support him and the Upstream Foundation given the amount of support he’s afforded us including being an exclusive Match Committee member and helping get the team to Utah for the past two years.”

Competitors can enter the event as individuals or as a group and will help raise funds for Camp Quality, Disability Sport & Recreation and the Entrust Foundation.

The Upstream Foundation is a not for profit organisation and its major sponsor, Upstream Print Solutions covers all event costs allowing all monies raised to be passed directly to the beneficiaries. Since the event started in 2005, more than $1 million has been raised.

Hoen himself, is one of only four people to have completed all seven Upstream Challenges. Vale though, in true football fashion, is just happy to take it one event at a time.

“I don’t think I’ll ever catch Gordon, and from what I hear, the man can scale a mountain without too much trouble. In Utah, he held his own so I think the flat track from Docklands to Donvale won’t trouble him too much.”
