It was a disappointing night against Richmond at Metricon Stadium, but one player in particular could hold his head high.
Shaun Higgins had quieter games by his lofty standards in rounds five and six, with 14 and 15 disposals respectively, but on Saturday night he stepped it up.
The 32-year-old racked up 36 disposals, 5 tackles and 4 clearances, along the way registering 517 metres gained.
By the final siren, he’d had 11 more possessions than any other player on the ground.
It was the equal-fifth highest tally of Higgins’ career, and along the way, he amassed the highest disposal figure of any player this year, surpassing Adam Treloar’s 35.
The effort is made even more significant by the fact teams are currently playing shorter 16-minute quarters.
A two-time Syd Barker Medal winner, Higgins signed a new two-year deal at the end of 2019.
No Ziebell, no Cunnington, injured Simpkin.
