When is comes to up and coming young stars with potential to burn, Flynn Perez is a unique and exciting prospect. With genuine x-factor and an underlying ultra-competitive drive, the 18-year-old could be the perfect fit for North Melbourne this year and beyond.

Perez missed all of 2019 due to an ACL rupture, but was still selected with pick 35 that year by the Kangaroos. After a long wait on the sidelines, he enjoyed his first full training session on Thursday on the Gold Coast.

“It was awesome,” an excited Perez told North Media.

“It was a long time coming. I was just really happy to be out there with the boys.”

Perez was close to joining the main group in last week, but was pulled out of the session on the day.

“I wasn’t too happy about it,” he said with a laugh.

“The physios are thinking of my best interests, so I had to listen to them, even if it was frustrating.

“It was the worth the wait because I really enjoyed yesterday.”

Now, Perez says he is raring to go.

“My knee feels really good at the moment,” he said.

“My body is holding up well and I just need to get through training over the next couple of weeks.

“Rehab was frustrating, but now I’m training with the team on the Gold Coast, so I can’t complain.”

And he’s not ruling out a push for senior selection sooner rather than later.

“For me, I’m just focused on getting through training and practice games, but if all goes well I’d like to push for an AFL game this season.
