Every Wednesday, we'll be heading into the archive to recap some of the great games throughout North Melbourne's rich history.

This week, we take you back to 2019, and a classic match against Hawthorn at Marvel Stadium.

August 1, 2019; after impressing in his term as interim coach, Rhyce Shaw was officially appointed North's senior coach for the following three seasons.

A day later, and the Roos were back in the timeslot they made so famous for a Friday night blockbuster.

Alastair Clarkson's Hawks were still in the mix for the finals, while North looked to finish the season on a strong note.

Shaw had already led his team to impressive victories over Richmond and Collingwood in his short tenure as interim coach, with a brand of relentless, tough, contested footy on show.

But after three losses in a row, North was on the backfoot early. 23 minutes into the first quarter, Hawthorn had kicked the first four goals, and it looked as though it could be a tough night at the office.

Finally Mason Wood broke the Roos' deadlock late in the term, and the comeback began.
