North Melbourne continues to roll out the key announcements with All-Australian full back Scott Thompson the latest player to sign a contract extension.

Already locked away for 2014, the defender recently gave the nod to another three years, taking him through until the end of the 2017 season.

Thompson joins Ben Cunnington and Aaron Black who also agreed to extensions until 2017 and Lindsay Thomas who penned a new deal until 2016.

“The club approached me and my manager, Anthony McConville, about a month ago with a two year extension but I’m really keen to be a one-club player and we came to terms on an extra year on top of that,” Thompson told NMFC.com.au.

“With the things going on at North at the moment, I’d be crazy to contemplate playing anywhere else.  My future is here and this is the club that gave me an opportunity.”

Thompson’s contract news comes just days after the club announced Geoff Walsh as director of football and Leigh Tudor as senior assistant coach.  Ben Dyer will also join the Kangaroos as development manager and John Donehue returns as tackling coach.

“It’s definitely an exciting place to be and the work the club is doing the post-season to ensure we have every opportunity to succeed is pretty clear and impressive.”

Thompson capped off a career-best year on Monday night, winning his first Syd Barker Medal after tying with Daniel Wells.

“It’s been a big couple of weeks with the All-Australian, best and fairest and now this but I’m already looking forward to the pre-season and feel that we’re going to be right in it next year.”
