Scott McMahon was close to making his return this weekend, but instead will face another week on the sidelines through injury.

The 27-year-old rolled his ankle in an innocuous training incident a fortnight ago, and will miss his second match in a row on Sunday.

“Scott’s ankle has improved immeasurably over the course of this week,” North's director of medical services Steve Saunders told NMFC.com.au.

“He was very close to playing this weekend but we thought he would benefit from another week’s rest. He should definitely be right for next week.

Small-forward Lindsay Thomas was subbed out during the clash against the Dockers with a hamstring injury, but the goal-sneak is a certainty to play this week.

“Lindsay has pulled up great,” Saunders added.

“The testing we did on his hamstring during the game showed that everything was as it should be, then his scan during the week came back all clear. He was never in doubt for this week.”

Meanwhile, young gun Kieran Harper is touch and go after another setback in the VFL.

“Unfortunately there were a couple of small incidences where Kieran injured another part of his ankle during training and then in last weekend’s Werribee game.

“He’s doing really well, we’ll take him through some testing today and if he passing all of that he should be right to play this weekend, but if he doesn’t we’ll hold him back for another week.”
