Taylor Hine is set to add to his modest AFL games tally after being named in the North Melbourne side that will face Sydney.

NMFC.com.au can reveal the former Sun will debut for the Roos in Hobart after playing nine games for Gold Coast - one in 2011 and eight in 2012.

"Brad called me last night and said I'd be playing and that he was happy with how I went against the Hawks in the NAB Cup and how I've been going for Werribee in the VFL.  He just urged me to keep that going", Hine said.

"I was pretty excited on the other end of the phone but I didn't want to get too excited talking to Scotty, so hopefully I'll go alright on Saturday."

It was against the Swans in Round 18, 2012 the 21-year-old had a career best game collecting 26 disposals.  In that game Hine played on Lewis Jetta and may have that task again at Blundstone Arena.

"I pretty much play as a small or medium defender playing on the quicks like Jetta.  Just being a lock dock down defender is a role I enjoy...it's what I've done over the last few years so I'm pretty comfortable there.

"I played on Jetta before and played pretty well, but obviously you have to do your homework and know how they play.  He's improved a lot since then.  I'll do a bit of homework on him but won't try and think about it too much, just let it unfold."

After post season shoulder surgery in 2012, Hine says he's surprised to be given an opportunity so early.

"Talking to Brad, he said I'd get a good opportunity when I came to North, but I was surprised to get a call-up as early as round three.  I am pleased though and have done everything I could to get a game."
