In the Mix: Round 18
It was only a narrow loss to Carlton, but North’s match committee will have a few options this week.
NMFC.com.au looks at those in line for a spot in the Roos side.
Have your say on the potential changes below.
Taylor Garner
Young, bold and courageous, Garner sealed the deal for the Roosters on Sunday in the VFL with another match winning goal. While his statistics were modest, there’s plenty to like about the small forward and a game against the Demons might be the perfect chance to test him on the big stage
Last game: 13 disposals, 6 tackles, 1 goal.
Ben Jacobs
While Taylor Garner kicked the winning goal, Jacobs was the man that set it up with a gutsy mark going back with the flight of the ball. Working hard to become a more diverse and damaging midfielder, the 21-year-old was one of the Roosters’ best players.
Last game: 26 disposals, 10 handball receives, 6 clearances
Luke Delaney
He’s been in fine form for the majority of the year with North Ballarat and Delaney’s attitude is also unquestionable. A major factor in the Roosters’ latest win, the defender could be called on to give the North Melbourne defence a different look at Etihad Stadium.
Last game: 19 disposals, 8 marks, 6 spoils
Cam Delaney
Cam Delaney’s stocks continue to rise and his efforts for North Ballarat on Sunday were again sensational. The 21-year-old helped keep Frankston to just two goals in the last quarter.
Last game: 26 disposals, 11 marks, 10 one percenters
Liam Anthony
There’s never a doubt about Anthony’s ball winning ability and he again racked up huge numbers for the Roosters on Sunday.
Last game: 34 disposals and 14 marks.
Kieran Harper
Working hard to regain some confidence and touch, Harper was electric in the final quarter for Werribee almost helping the visiting side snatch an unlikely victory from Coburg. He kicked two crucial goals in the final term and was the dominant player on the ground in the final stages.
Last game: 10 disposals, 6 tackles, 2 goals
Daniel Currie
Despite calls for him to come in and give Todd Goldstein some help in the ruck, Currie may have to get some more match fitness after playing just one game since dealing with an injured heel. He rucked well against Coburg on Sunday, but the sloppy conditions didn’t allow the big man to have much impact in front of goals or around the ground.
Last game: 11 disposals, 25 hit-outs
Majak Daw
In unfavourable conditions, Daw struggled to have a big influence in the VFL on Sunday. His work in the ruck contest is now consistent from week to week and another shot at the AFL could be close.
Last game: 11 disposals, 26 hit-outs, 10 tackles
Levi Greenwood
Playing on the damaging Shane Tuck, Greenwood was able to limit him to 21 disposals and also get a bit of the ball himself.
Last game: 18 disposals, 9 tackles
Michael Firrito
Battling with the disappointment of being dropped from the Roos side for the first time since 2006, Firrito did everything that was asked of him in the VFL with Werribee. On several occasions he provided some real drive and cleared the ball from the back half.
Aiming to get his hands dirty and gain some confidence, the 29-year-old has vowed to fight his way back in to the best 22 for North Melbourne.
Last game: 16 disposals, 3 tackles
Sam Wright
After a quiet game for Werribee a few weeks ago, Wright has bounced back well. Another player looking to build up some confidence.
Last game: 18 disposals, 6 tackles
Ayden Kennedy
The defender was among the Tigers' best and praised for his ability to use the ball well in tough conditions.
While he faces tough competition for a spot in the back-line, Kennedy is doing all he can to push for a spot.
Last game: 15 disposals, 5 tackles
