When the Roos travel, there’s always downtime. In a new series, NMFC.com.au catches up with various room-mates in an effort to get to know them better and find out exactly what they get up to away from home.

It’s Round 4 and we are in Sydney. We made time to catch-up with Scott Thompson and Michael Firrito and interviewed them separately to obtain some interesting insights.

Last movie you watched – rating out of 10:
Spud: I haven’t watched a movie in a while actually. It would have been The Wolf of Wall Street. I’ll give it an 8 out of 10 because there was lots of adult themes. There was lots of boobs in it.

Scooter: The Wolf of Wall Street. I give it a 9 – it had a good storyline. Nah, because of the nudity.

Favourite app?
Spud: There’s this new one… Instagram.

Scooter: Candy Crush. I’m hooked on it.

Favourite music?:
Spud: I’m not big into music. I don’t have any music on my phone, so I don’t know if that’s weird. In the car we have a CD but it’s for Lenny and it’s just nursery rhymes. There’s one song that gets stuck in my head; it’s called Lenny, and it goes ‘Lenny, Lenny, Lenny… something, over the ocean’.

Scooter: I don’t listen to music. I couldn’t tell you any current bands. I don’t have one song on my phone. I don’t even know where the music button is on my phone. I used to like John Farnham though.

Roomies’ worst habits?
Spud on Scooter: He’s really messy and throws clothes everywhere. He’s normally quite conscientious. His farting is probably the worst thing though.

Scooter on Spud: He snores. He always gets priority of bed because of games played. When he goes to the toilet he’s not a great aim.

Pre-match superstitions?
Spud: I get the remote control the night before a game. I’m king of the controller.

Normally I’m the guy that runs through the banner first, but I don’t know if I’ll have that role this time. Apparently Turbo’s (Thompson) taken over – we might have to have that discussion tonight.

Scooter:
I always have pasta the night before and a few Gatorades. I always put my jumper on at the last minute, I hate sitting around sweating.

Weirdest superstition?
Spud: Boomer (Brent Harvey) has to tap the wall three times before we run out of the change-rooms.

Scooter: Ats (Shaun Atley) has to clean his boots the night before every match.

Pre-game activities?
Spud: I always go for a walk.

Scooter: I don’t like to read the papers, and try not to think about my opponent and put it out of mind until I get to the ground.

Favourite mini-bar item?
Spud: I’m normally a Kit-Kat man but I thought I’d change it up for an Aero bar.

Scooter: If there’s a Twirl in there I’m pretty happy.

Biggest eater?
Spud: Scotty Thompson’s always pretty big on the tooth. Unfortunately Loose (Scott McMahon) isn’t in the team, but he normally puts a fair bit away.

Scooter: Jack Ziebell. He’s up here in Sydney and not playing which means he’ll go pretty hard.

Worst room-mate and why?
Spud: Brady Rawlings was quite the snorer believe it or not. One morning we woke up and they thought there was an orchestra in our room between me and him.

Scooter: Todd Goldstein. He snores. I’ve never roomed with him and but I’ve roomed next door and that’s bad enough.

What do you love/hate about playing away?
Spud: Love - The banquet the night before. Hate – The travel.

Scooter: Love – Not much. Hate – Thinking too much about footy. It’s very consuming.

Best and worst interstate ground?
Spud: Best – Best surface is definitely Blundstone (Arena) in Hobart. Worst – Subiaco, we haven’t had much success there lately.

Scooter: Best – Blundstone because of the crowd and surface. Worst – Subiaco, especially after losing a final.

Who do you miss most when you play interstate?
Spud: Umm, my mum. Nah, nah, nah, Bonnie, Bonnie, Bonnie… and Lenny.

Scooter: Lauren, my baby daughter Genevieve and my dog.

A hit of table tennis the night before the game.

The phones without any music.
