Fantasy: Round 16 Preview
The selectors have swung the axe this week on the back of last week’s disappointing loss.
The selectors have swung the axe this week on the back of last week’s disappointing loss. Aaron Mullett, Brad McKenzie and Max Warren all depart, while Jack Ziebell will miss through injury.
It's another disappointing setback for Ziebell, who has struggled for consistent form this season. His fantasy average is down 10 points on last year, and this will be the fourth game he's missed this year. Priced at $440,421 it’s time to let him go if you were holding him.
The quartet will be replaced by Lachie Hansen, who has recovered after being a late withdrawal last week, Scott McMahan, Sam Wright and Liam Anthony.
The most interesting inclusion is undoubtedly Anthony. He has proven before that he can be a solid fantasy contributor; he averaged 97 points from 19 games in 2012 – but has struggled for regular games since.
In 2014 he has managed three games, for fantasy returns of 30, 57 and 27. If he avoids the substitute’s vest tonight, he could be one to watch in the coming weeks.
Levi Greenwood has shown how quickly fantasy fortunes can turn around and priced at $200,823 in AFL Fantasy, a good game tonight will make Anthony a potential trade-in target.
Last time North played Hawthorn not one Hawk managed to score 100 fantasy points, while Todd Goldstein, the aforementioned Ziebell and Sam Gibson all topped this mark. Brent Harvey was tagged by Liam Shiels in that encounter, and a repeat matchup can be expected this week given his outstanding form.
Around the Grounds
For the Hawks, Sam Mitchell will return after not playing since round 7. The Hawthorn play-maker still has the potential to be a top fantasy option, and is priced at $497,536.
With a score of 7 in his last outing, Mitchell will drop further in price this week.
Cyril Rioli makes way, however, with yet another hamstring injury.
Toby Greene returns after a seven-week layoff, and priced at $428,881 he is an interesting prospect for the remainder of the year. He’s scored well in the past, and is more than capable of a barnstorming finish. Heath Shaw makes way, however, after failing to recover from concussion following last week’s sickening collision with Kurt Tippett. If you own Shaw then stick with him – he should return next week.
Keep a close eye on Crow Ricky Henderson – priced at $435,100 – who gets his first chance to play in 2014. He loomed as a real breakout candidate at the beginning of the year, before injury laid him low.
Henderson enjoyed a fantasy purple patch last year where he averaged 100 points from Rounds 14-20, and he could be a worthy late-round upgrade for your team.
Finally, Ryan Griffen returns for the Western Bulldogs after missing a solitary game. Initially expected to spend several weeks on the sidelines, he has a chance to repay the faith of fantasy owners that stuck with him.
