Story of the game
Werribee started strongly and had the better of the opening term with three goals from Daw.

As expected from a good side, Port Melbourne fought back, taking control in the second term with seven goals to one. By half-time the margin was 22 points.

Away from home, the Tigers continued to push but every time they put a dint in the margin, the Borough responded, eventually prevailing by 13 points.

Points of interest:
1. Majak Daw was one of the standouts on the ground with five goals straight.

β€œIn the first quarter he started like a house on fire. He was just brilliant and marked everything that went in there.

β€œThe supply dried up a little bit in the second quarter, but he was very good.”

Two goals in particular stood out.

β€œThe first was right on the boundary line in the opening quarter. It was a brilliant effort.

β€œHe also kicked another one from about 55 metres out on a tight angle. It was a magnificent kick and gave us a bit of shift in momentum.” – Senior Development Coach Gavin Brown

2. Tim McGenniss claimed another scalp with a tagging role on dangerous midfielder Chris Cain.

The North rookie kept his opponent to just 12 disposals to continue an impressive start to the season.

β€œCain is one of Port Melbourne’s better playmakers, so it was a fantastic effort to completely shut him out.

β€œIt was a really good game and Timmy was a little bit crook too; he lost about three or four kilos the night before so it was a fantastic effort.” - Gavin Brown

3. Scott McMahon could be in line for a return after a solid defensive game.

Repelling many attacks, he also managed 24 disposals.

β€œHe was very good down back. His use of the ball was excellent; his defensive efforts were really good as well. I thought he was really solid.” – Gavin Brown

4. Former Swan and now North development coach Jarred Moore put his name up for a mature-age rookie spot once again, with another outstanding midfield performance. But some have their doubts.

β€œI think he had about 18 touches in the first half. He was really a shining light the old boy and wound back the clock.

β€œI think his heart’s in coaching now. 30 isn’t far away, so I think he might want to stick to that.” – Unidentified recruiter

5. With barely any wind and no rain, one official had a game to forget.

β€œThe central umpire had a bit of nightmare day. He had to recall the bounce every second time it seemed.

β€œThe crowd were into him for the rest of the game. I felt sorry for him. He just could not get it right.” – anon
