Shaun Higgins says the AFL should consider more prime time games across different days, when football ultimately returns.

The original fixture is set to be scrapped completely, according to AFL.com.au, providing room for more flexibility for remaining matches.

The North vice-captain supported the idea of games on Monday or Tuesday nights, in order to give all teams greater exposure to blockbuster-style time slots.

“From a viewer point of view, I would love that,” he told SEN.

“It’s going to be greater for the viewer and it’s going to be greater for the broadcasters and hopefully a different avenue of keeping football at a premium.

“Those twilight Saturday and Sunday games can kind of be lost a little bit, because there’s been six or seven games squeezed into a 48-hour period and maybe there’s viewers that are over football by Sunday afternoon.

“If footy can stretch that out and give options, I’m all for that.”

Higgins said other players would likely be open to the idea, with the potential to play in front of a big audience, and provide a better experience for fans who can't attend games.

“As players I think we’ll adapt to anything now with what we’ve gone through and also know football is not going to be exactly the same as what we knew,” he said.

“Why not play around with that and have Monday night footy in these prime slots on TV? We’ll get some of the best television and the best teams playing.

“I don’t think there’s anything better than knowing you’re a standalone game at 7:30pm and you’re going to get a big audience watching it. As a player, they’re great games to play in.

“If we can create more primetime slots and share them around, it’s something to consider.

“The one thing is we wouldn’t want to go to overkill where we’re playing every night of the week and supporters are getting sick of it, but there’s certainly scope for Thursday through to Monday or Tuesday.”

The AFL is likely to make further announcements regarding plans to restart the season, following government meetings later this week.
