While some of their teammates had a week’s head-start in Utah, back at Arden Street the senior group wasted little time settling in on Tuesday.
The likes of (Brent) Harvey, (Drew) Petrie, (Daniel) Wells and (Jarrad) Waite were on the track, joined by new recruits Farren Ray and Ben McKay for a two-hour skills session.
If that initiation wasn’t enough, next came running with the players’ off-season conditioning tested for the first time.
Limited to lighter duties after clean-ups to both knees following the 2015 campaign, captain Andrew Swallow confirmed he won’t resume training with the group until after Christmas.
But the news is better for Wells, who is making solid progress after an injury interrupted season.
“He (Wells) looks like he’s tracking really well,” Swallow said.
“He looks a lot lighter. He’s probably dropped a few kilos. To see him this year running around, he’s well advanced to where he was last year.
“He looks in terrific nick at the moment. He looks lean.
“I’ve been at the club a fair bit over the off-season and the majority of time I’ve been here, he’s been here doing something. It’s really positive to see.”
The players will be back on the track on Wednesday.
